When a piano has gone years without tuning, its overall pitch drops too far for a single fine tuning to hold. A pitch raise rebuilds string tension across the whole instrument first, so the follow-up fine tuning can settle in and stay put.

How often should I have my piano tuned?

Most pianists benefit from 2 tunings per year. Pianos in heavy use, or in climates with seasonal humidity swings like San Antonio, may need more frequent service.

What is a pitch raise and do I need one?

If your piano hasn’t been tuned in several years, the overall pitch may have dropped too far for a standard fine tuning. A pitch raise brings the tension back up to proper level — then we follow up with a fine tuning.

How long does a tuning take?
